Woman and Child by Martin Marootian

This is a wood engraving of a seated woman who appears to be in Elizabethan dress holding a child. The child's face looks more like an adult, and there isn't much tenderness in the woman's face. It has some aspects of the Madonna and Child. The graphic style is dramatic. The image raises many more questions than it answers. This probably dates from the 1930s to 1940s. The artist is Martin Marootian. I've had a number of pieces by him as I really like his graphic style, but there is very little information available about him. He is an Armenian-American artist.
