Desert Landscape by Howard Elmer House

This is an impressionistic desert landscape by noted American artist Howard Elmer House. The medium is oil on board. The foreground is mostly warm sand with scattered vegetation rendered with bold brushstrokes in the pale greenish-blues typical of desert plants. Purple mountains are indistinctly present in the background.

Artist Bio: Howard Elmer House (1877 - 1969)
A painter of landscapes and portraits, Howard Elmer House lived in Portland, Oregon. He was a pupil at the Chicago Art Institute, and The Chicago Academy of Fine Art. He arrived in Portland in the 1930's, and became a member of the Oregon Society of Artists and the American Artists Professional League.

In some of his early landscapes, he appears to have been influenced by California Plein-Air artists.
