Country Road by James Gemill
This is a great abstract piece from early in the career of the artist James Gemill. Gemill confirmed that he created this piece early in his career. It is a mixed media work that allows him to create wonderful surfaces. A yellow line extends from near the top of the image to the bottom. Perhaps the viewer is looking down on the road from high above. Is there a lake to the right? Does the white represent salt flats? There is much to imagine about this great piece.
Artist Bio: James Gemmill was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on 2 September 1954. He studied painting and drawing at the Universities of Utah and Boston. In 1983 he received the prestigious Fullbright Hayes Scholarship which enabled him to move to London to study at the Royal College of Art where he obtained a Master’s degree in 1984. He worked for some years as a gallery artist in association with the Solomon Gallery in London and Gallery NAGA in Boston, Massachusetts.
In the 1990s James Gemmill began his illustrious career as a scenic artist in the film industry.
Other awards that James Gemmill has received during his career include the David Murray Studentship Fund for the Encouragement of Landscape Painting, in 1985 he was the runner up for the Athena International Art Award. He has been holding solo exhibitions in the USA and England since 1986.
James Gemmill resides in Oxfordshire, England.
