Surf Pounded Coast by Charles Jac Young

Charles Jac Young studied at the New York Academy of Design under such luminaries as Edgar Ward, C.Y. Turner and Robert Henri. He was a self-taught etcher. This work was done for the Brooklyn Society of Etchers, of which Young was a member of the council. The scene was suggested by Philip's Cove, Maine, although it is an artistic representation of the character of the Maine coast, rather than a representation of this spot. It is signed in pencil lower right. It is a very powerful etching that conveys the power and motion of the surf. The print is accompanied by the original description from the Brooklyn Society of Etchers.
