Bell Tower by Lorraine Moore

Lorraine Moore (1911-1988) Lorraine Moore was an Oklahoma artist. She studied at the Portland Art School and with Marion Hartwell and Xavier Gonzalez. She moved to the University of Oklahoma where she spent her career. She collaborated with her mentor Doel Reed on his aquatints and became accomplished in this medium in her own right. She also worked in other media including painting and mixed media. Her output ranged from traditional representational work, particularly featuring images from the southwest, to abstract. She was a member of the Prairie Printmakers. She won several major prizes including 100 Best Prints of the Year (1941), the Library of Congress, among others. She had multiple exhibits and had solo shows at the Kansas City Art Institute, the Denver Art Museum (1951), and the National Academy of Design.
This is a colorful oil painting that is very typical of her work. She frequently chooses architectural subjects and uses abstraction with elements of cubism to transform the scene. In this painting, she uses thin layers of paint and geometric shapes to create the illusion of reflections on a window the viewer is looking through. A beautiful painting in perfect condition.
