Fondamente Santa Maria Formosa-Venezia by Audrey Kent Foster

This is a charcoal drawing of a scene in Venice Italy by Audrey Kent Foster. It depicts the Fondamente Santa Maria Formosa (the Church of Santa Maria Formosa) in Venice. This is an unusual view in that it shows the back of the church which abuts a canal. The image also includes the Ponte e Rio Mondo Novo. The style uses elements of cubism including flattened perspective and emphasis of geometric shapes. There is effective use of light and shadow to enhance the dramatic nature of the image. It is titled and signed in ink lower left. I have not found out any information on this artist, but she has a number of images of Venice, both in charcoal and lithographs. The drawing is in excellent condition with no smudging, discoloration, fading, tears, or paper loss. A great image.
