This is a powerful woodblock print by Soviet artist Amet Ustaev Useinovich. It is a realistic depiction of men and machines working in a quarry where they are dominated by the imposing landscape. This feeling is enhanced by the rich inking of the hillside which dwarfs the equipment. This is from a collection of prints titled Reflections (translated from the Russian title in pencil lower left. It is signed and dated lower right. This is a typical work of art from the Soviet Union in the early 1960s with emphasis on the worker.
Ustaev Amet Useinovich (1909 – 1990) Little is known about this Soviet artist. He is listed on the Register of Professional Artists of the Russian Empire.
