Birches by H. B. D.

This is a drypoint etching that probably dates from the pre-WWII period, 1930s or 40s. It has initials H. B. D. lower left, but is otherwise not signed. I have not been able to identify the artist. It is a wonderful etching representing the work of an accomplished artist. It demonstrates excellent drypoint technique to emphasize the birch bark and bushes at the base of the trees. Plate toning is varied across the image to enhance the image. A very nice example of pre-war American etching.
