Illustration II by Joan Miro

This is a lithograph by Joan Miró titled Illustration II. It was created for a French art journal. It is very typical of Miró's work with bright, bold colors, biomorphic shapes, handled in a surrealist manner. The image itself contains a mountain/volcano, a red planet, a bird, a snake, figures and faces, and what appears to be a rocket ship in the upper right. It is signed in the plate near the top of the volcano. The lithograph is in fantastic shape. The colors pop. There is no staining, toning, or paper tears/loss. It is mounted on a mat board. The image size is given above. The matted size is 16 x 20 inches. It was purchased at auction and the auction label is included. Miró created many works for art journals and periodicals. These are very attractive for collectors, as they have all the hallmarks of Miró's art, but because they were printed in larger edition sizes, they are much more affordable that the limited edition signed work.
