On The Ridge by Todd Matson

"On the Ridge" is a beautiful oil on Masonite by American artist Todd Matson. It is a landscape depicting a stand of trees (probably Aspen) with evergreens and blue sky in the background. The ground is partially snow-covered suggesting that this is an early spring setting, as the snow seems to be melting. The colors are beautiful and Matson's handling of light and shadow is masterful. The location is not identified, but Matson is from Kansas and works in the West. Trees are one of the artist's favorite subjects. The painting is square in format 9.5 x 9.5 inches. It is framed with the frame size 14 x 14 inches. It's painted on the smooth side of the Masonite. It is signed lower right. It is signed, dated ('95), and titled on the back. It's in excellent condition with no damage or paint loss. It's a beautiful small painting.
