Misty Mountains by David Lee

This is a beautiful lithograph by Chinese-Hawaiian artist David Lee. It is done in the traditional oriental style and shows steep mountains with clouds in the valleys. Blue and green foliage frames the mountains and birds are soaring over the scene. The colors and very muted as they would be when viewing through fog and mist. The composition features significant negative space and is an example of the Chinese approach to landscape painting. This is a lithograph. It is signed in pencil lower right David Ly. Chinese characters and a red chop mark is also present. The edition is given in pencil lower left, 71/225. As is typical of his work, the lithograph is printed to the margin of the unframed sheet. The image size is 29 x 20.5 inches. It is in pristine condition with no tears, paper loss, fading, stains, or foxing. A beautiful example of the artist's work.

David Lee (1944- ) David Lee was born in China, but raised in Hong Kong> he began painting as a child. He received formal artistic training at several institutions in Hong Kong. He was particularly influenced by classical Chinese painting techniques and has incorporate this into his work. His talent was recognized early on when he was the youngest winner ever of the Chinese National Painting Competition. He moved to Hawaii, initially working for the Consulate General of the Republic of China in the Foreign Affairs Department. However, he now devotes himself full-time to his art. He is very prolific, and has had one-man shows around the world. His work is held in the permanent collection of Taiwan University, the National Museum of Taiwan, and the Chuk-Yun Museum in Hong Kong. He has received awards from the government of the Republic of China, the government of Switzerland, the City and County of Honolulu, and the City of Osaka, Japan.
