L'heure du Depart by Krystyna Smiechowska

This is an etching and aquatint by the noted Polish-French printmaker Krystyna Smiechowska. It is titled L'heure du Depart (Departure Time). It is completely abstract and essentially monochrome with the use of brown ink on cream paper. There are patterns of lines and grids, some straight, some curved. Are these potential paths for the departure? Is this the abstracted essence of a map? Perhaps an aerial view of the terrain to traverse. The interpretation is up to the viewer. The piece is unframed. It is signed in pencil lower right. The title is given in pencil lower center and the edition, 1/40 lower left. The sheet is untrimmed and is 26 x 20 inches. The plate size is 24.25 x 18 inches. The condition is pristine. It is well struck and inked. There are no condition issues including no toning, foxing, staining, tears, paper loss, or other issues. It looks fresh from the press even though it probably dates from the 1970s. An excellent example of the artist's work.
