After the Day of Aug. 28 by Illegibly Signed
This is an abstract etching titled After the Day of Aug. 28. It is a monochrome etching that is dominated by energetic swirls that appear to be drawn into a pale circular void in the upper right. Close inspection of the periphery of the image one sees tiny and bizarre plants and animals. There are seed pods something that is vaguely spider-like and other unusual objects that are biomorphic in nature. The artist is very skilled as the precision of the etching is superb. The title may provide a clue. On August 28, 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall devastating New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Perhaps the pale circle is the eye of the hurricane with the surrounding storm clouds. This is purely speculative of course, there is no additional information that would help to interpret the image. The piece is signed, but the signature is illegible. The edition 13/15 is given lower left along with a notation S2 (B) suggesting this is the second state and a second version of that state. The title is given in pencil lower center. It's a really dramatic piece in excellent condition. It is framed, but the entire sheet is visible. There are no condition issues including no staining, foxing, fading, toning, tears or paper loss. The plate size is 12.75 x 10 inches. The sheet and frame are 17 x 15 inches. A very dynamic piece of modern art.
