Happening by Lynn Winter
This is a colorful abstract watercolor by Iowa artist Lynn Winter titled Happening. The image is centered around a curved structure that resembles a boat hull. If that interpretation is chosen, then one can infer the presence of a mast, sails, and bowsprit. Of course this work given its nature is open to other interpretations as well. The image is based on blues and greens with hints of red and yellow that add a dynamic quality to the work. The curved structure and other structural motifs are rendered in bold black lines. The brushwork is very gestural and energetic. All in all it is a well-painted abstract watercolor. The work is framed and has not been examined out of the frame. The visible image is 12 x 8 inches. It is signed in watercolor Lynn W F lower right. It appears to be in excellent condition but has not been examined out of the frame. The frame size is 20 1/4 x 16 1/4 inches. The backing may be archival, but the mats are showing signs of acid discoloration. The watercolor itself has no visible condition issues including no staining, toning, foxing, tears, or paper loss. I've not been able to find any information on the artist, other than at the time this was painted she was living in Dubuque, Iowa. The piece may have been entered in a competition. Date is not clear, but could be 1992 based on some of the other notation. It's a lovely piece ready to hang.
